Small Bites #15
Jim Henson made these wonderfully violent commercials for Wilkin's Coffee in the 50s and 60s featuring an early Kermit-like character.
Kevin Van Aelst is somewhere at the intersection of food, science and photography. I've had his gummi worm chromosomes up as my desktop wallpaper for the last week.
MAK has a great collection of mostly Austrian posters organized by subject from the early to mid 20th century.
Japanese magazine covers on Journey Round My Skull.
Jell-o pictures from the Jell-o mold competition. The jewelry is really a nice use of the medium. Also, I like the caviar.
Retro design seems to be everywhere in the grocery store lately – everywhere from these Whole Foods produce boxes, Pepsi Throwback, General Mills cereal and the special Target Oreo and Ritz packaging. I'd like to think it's because people appreciate good typography, illustration and white space. But, nah, it's probably just a nostalgia moment. Although any moment that moves us away from clutter and the whole "let's make everything look 3D like a website" is OK by me. Flat is beautiful.

great stuff, young kermit along with hints of Rolf the dog
Rolf! That's it. I knew he seemed familiar, but just couldn't place him.
Don't forget the endless limited editions of retro candy wrappers...
