Thoughts on Typography and Chicken McNuggets

Starting with a TED talk by Stephen Sagmeister on his "Things I have learned in my life so far." His use of 3-dimensional typography using objects is probably one of the most copied things I see in graphic design these days. And he's been doing it for quite awhile. Although I also have to give props to Ed Ruscha who was doing it even before that.

Next up, via Wooster Collective, Evan Roth's "TSA Communication." A simple and fun idea, but one that will not speed up the security line.

Lastly, also on Wooster Collective, Banksy is in NY and his "Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill" is the most fun thing I've seen in a while. The baby Chicken McNuggets are the best.

Dolla, Dolla Beer Ya'll

So, I'm not a sports enthusiast, but every once in a while going to the ballpark is worthwhile. Especially on dollar beer night. There's a promotional gimmick between every inning, and this one was the brainchild of a local eye doctor. Actually, two eyeballs were racing each other. And this followed some kids getting into human-sized versions of those clear hamster balls and "bowling" over some squishy five foot tall pins.

Sasquatch Sighted!

Just a little fun for Friday. Sasquatch was seen in Atlanta, Count Dracula in New Orleans.

Weekly food reviews at The Onion's AV Club. Yes, The Onion. This week is Duff "Beer" and Flaming Moe energy drinks.

And, from a couple weeks back, Patton Oswalt riffs on the KFC "Famous Bowl."

Also, McSweeney's Reviews of New Food.

This is a relatively long video (15 minutes) and has little to do with food or design, but it does feature monkeys.

Strange

I shot this image at a flea market in Memphis. I couldn't make up something like that if I tried. Now you can buy the print on Etsy.

Strange maps. Cool collection of yep, you guessed it, strange maps.

Overdoing the Whole Catfish Thing

I recently had occasion to visit Magee, MS. This is what greeted me in the bathroom of a restaurant downtown.
